Dana Lemaster creates engaging worlds through her novels and screenplays. She draws from a variety of sources, including her childhood in Kentucky and adult life in Maryland. Depending on the project, she adds insights from travels, reading, films, and conversations.
Her work has appeared in The Washington Post, and she has been in the quarterfinals of the screenwriting competition for the Austin Film Festival.
Like many aspiring authors, she had a practical first career. Her work as a certified public accountant made it possible for her to have the career she envisioned as a child.

Conversations played a key role in her early years. People in her family loved stories and conversations. Gatherings tended to feature both, often with one leading to the other and back again. This inspired her to begin creating her own stories, and she longed to share them.
But often, people in Kentucky thought girls should listen rather than speak. They had little time for a curious, talkative girl with an outsized imagination. Writing became a much-needed outlet. She also became a voracious reader and huge film fan. One day, she vowed, she’d explore the world and have a career as a writer.
The chance to explore the world-or, at least, a new part of it-came at age fifteen when her family moved to the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. It was a big change, but one that put her on the road to achieving her dreams. A practical first career as a certified public accountant made it possible for her to have the career she envisioned as a child.

She makes a point of supporting talkative little girls and always tells them curiosity is a gift.
